Here’s the thing about running social media as a small business owner: You know you need to show up.
You’ve heard that consistency is key, but when it comes to actually thinking of something to post?

Blank. Absolute tumbleweeds.

If “Just post something!” feels more like an irritating, overwhelming task a than helpful piece of advice, you’re not alone.

And no, you don’t need to dance on Reels, share every coffee you drink, or pretend your dog wrote your latest caption.

Why is it so hard though?

Because small business content isn’t just “content”. It’s you. Your brand. Your face (sometimes literally). You’re spinning a million plates already, and now you’re supposed to become a copywriter, strategist, videographer, and scheduling ninja? And even if you somehow nail the process you also have to find the time in your busy schedule to do it on the regular (or find a way to manifest Bernard’s Watch)

Honestly being a small business owner is hard so we get it!

So, what do I even post?

Glad you asked. Let’s ditch the “Happy [Insert National Day]” panic posts and talk about the stuff that actually works.

  1. The Behind-the-Scenes Bits
People love to see how the magic happens. Packing orders, sketching designs, prepping for client calls, it’s all interesting because it’s real. No fancy edit needed. Just you, doing what you do.
  2. The “How It Started vs. How It’s Going”
Whether it’s your workspace, your product range, or your confidence on camera, people love a journey. Show them yours.
  3. FAQs (but make them fun)
Think of the questions you get asked all the time. Turn each one into a post. Add a photo. Share your personality. Keep it human. Bonus: These posts secretly save you time because you’re answering things once instead of in every DM.
  4. Client Love
A kind message. A before/after. A success story. Highlight the impact you’re making – it builds trust and shows the value of what you do without sounding salesy.
  5. A Day in Your Life
Not the perfect version. The real one. Working in your comfies, juggling school runs, lighting 3 candles for “focus energy”, this is the stuff people relate to.
  6. Your ‘Why’
Why did you start your business? Why do you care about what you do? Your story is your strongest differentiator, don’t keep it hidden.
  7. Tips, Tools + Tiny Wins
Share something helpful your audience can use or learn from even if it seems simple to you. Pro tip: What’s obvious to you is often gold to someone else.

But what if I run out of ideas?

Here’s the thing: you probably already have more content than you think.
That client photo you loved but didn’t post.
That email you wrote with great advice.
That chat you had that sparked a lightbulb moment.

All of it? That’s content.
The trick is seeing it that way.

But if you’re super duper stuck then lucky for you we’ve designed something that will give you AT LEAST 3 months worth of scroll stopping content ideas our 101 Funky AF Content Ideas downloadable totally free when you subscribe to our totally awesome email series, The Heyday Diaries… which you can do RIGHT HERE.

And as a reminder, your content doesn’t have to be perfect. It just has to be you.
Real > polished.
Consistent > constant.
Human > corporate.

And if it still feels like a lot? That’s OK too. You don’t have to do it alone.
Sometimes all you need is a fresh pair of eyes (hi, that’s us).

Whether it’s planning your posts, writing captions, or figuring out what the heck a “content pillar” even is, we’ve got you.
